Hungary Supports Azerbaijan in Taking Part in Construction of Nabucco Pipeline – Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr A. Badalova / Hungary completely supports Azerbaijan in taking part in the project on construction of Nabucco pipeline, the number of stockholders of which may be extended to 7 from 5 available, the Hungarian Economy and Transport Minister Janosh Koka said in Baku on 22 November.

Representatives of Hungarian MOL oil and gas company are also visiting Baku together with the Minister. The company takes part in implementation of Nabucco project. Koka is visiting Baku at the invitation of Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev.

According Koka, expansion of the stockholders' list is a subject of economic negotiations.

With a length of 4,000km, the Nabucco gas pipeline will ensure gas delivery via the Mediterranean and Caspian Sea to Europe via Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tbilisi, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Austria. Operation of the gas pipeline will commence in 2011. The project is estimated at €5bln. Nabucco is being developed by companies of OMV (20%), MOL ( Hungary), Botas ( Turkey), Bulgargaz ( Bulgaria) and Transgaz ( Romania).

This week Hungarian Minister discussed in Turkey participation of the country in the project.

"We want to come to an agreement with Turkey on Nabucco. I am sure we will do that," he said.
