Gas Tariffs not to Rise in Azerbaijan in 2008 – Azerigaz
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Government is not to increase consumer gas prices in the country, the president of Azerigaz CJSC Alikhan Malikov said on 30 November.
"Azerigaz distributes and sells gas to local consumers at approved tariffs and they will not be changes in 2008," he said.
Presently, the arrangements intended to improve gas supply in the regions are underway. Many projects have been already implemented and work in several rural areas is expected to be completed by the end of the year. However, in compliance with the order of the Azerbaijani President, all gas-related problems in the regions of the country must be removed, and therefore, a plan and projects are being developed to continue the work next year.
"I think the work in this connection will be completed by August or September of 2008," Malikov said.
The arrangement plan on winter preparations has been completely fulfilled, but nevertheless, still not all consumers have gas, he said.
Pumping of gas from gas-holders, which contain 1.2bln cu m, has begun. The volume of the gas pumped out made up 50-60mln cu m and 5-6mln cu m is pumped out each day, he said.
"Due to cold weather gas supply is planned to be increased. So, all gas reserves in the gas-holders will completely expire by April," Malikov said.
