Record Gas Consumption Registered in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Consumers in Azerbaijan are currently provided with nearly 20mln cu.m of gas per day compared to 16mln cu.m at the beginning of 2006, a source stated at Azerigaz JSC. Gas consumption in Azerbaijan is at a record high this year.

"Such volumes of gas have never been supplied to consumers before," the same source said. The gas consumption increase is a result of bad weather conditions. Of the fuel volumes, nearly 11.5mln cu.m is being supplied to consumers in Baku and 9mln to subscribers of other territories of the country.

Baku Electricity Network JSC stated that the demand for electricity has not increased significantly in Baku. Nearly 33-35mln KWt/h of electricity is currently being supplied to consumers per day. As a result of the worsening weather conditions in Baku, electricity was supplied in volumes of 30-31mln KWt/h.

Baku International Airport named after Heydar Aliyev stated that despite the bad weather conditions, flights are continuing without problems.

Due to the deterioration of public transport (buses, taxis), the number of passengers have increased in the Baku Metro. The Metro is currently working overtime. Additional trains have been put on to provide a more frequent service.
