Oil Production in SOCAR’s Large Off-shore Field to Exceed 1mln Tons in 2008

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 January / Trend / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) put into operation its 10th oil well on the off-shore Oil Rocks field which was drilled from platform 1887, SOCAR reported.

The daily debit of the well is 30 tons (almost 11,000 tons a year). There are several productive layers which will be involved in development later. A total of 36 wells with a daily debit of 1,000 tons from each of them will be drilled from the platform.

Seven wells are being operated from the platform and three wells are currently being repaired. The daily debit of each of them constitutes 500 tons. Five more wells are expected to be drilled from the platform in 2008.

According to a presidential decree issued in 2004, the daily oil debit in the field shall be increased 1.5 times from 812,000 tons to 1.2mln tons. The volume is expected to be reached in 2009. For this purpose 20 new wells will be drilled in the field. Five of them will be drilled from the new platform 2387, five from platform 887, and ten wells will be drilled in the Muddy Volcano field.

In 2008, there are plans to produce over 1mln tons of oil from Oil Rocks. A total of 942,300 tons of oil was produced in the field in 2007, while in 2006 oil production comprised 898,500 tons. In 2007, 22 wells were put into exploitation in Oil Rocks, and in 2006 there were eleven.

New platform 2415 intended for drilling 12 wells is expected to be constructed in the field this year. Six platforms will be set up in the field by 2010, and 78 wells will be drilled from them.
