Greece to Submit Proposals on Gas Delivery from Shah Daniz to Europe
Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 March / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / Cooperation in the energy sector will be one of the key topics of negotiations during the visit of Christos Folias, Development Minister of Greece, to Azerbaijan. The Minister's visit is scheduled for from 17 to 19 March, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Greece, reported to Trend .
The parties will discuss delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Greece during the meeting, a source reported by telephone from Athens.
There are plans to deliver gas from the Shah Daniz field, which will be transported through the territory of Turkey to Greece and Italy. The Norwegian company StatoilHydro is the commercial operator of the Shah Daniz project.
During his visit to Azerbaijan, Folias will hold meetings with officials of the country, including Natik Aliyev, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister, and Heydar Babayev, Economic Development Minister.
Cooperation in trade-economic spheres is expected to be discussed during the meeting.
In 2007, the Economic Development Ministry of Azerbaijan and Development Ministry of Greece signed a memorandum on gas cooperation. By gas pipeline, which will connect Italy, Greece and Turkey in 2012, European countries may purchase 8bln cu m of gas from Azerbaijan. Construction of the gas pipeline between Turkey and Greece started in November.
