Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 April / corr Trend S.Aliyev / ВР Azerbaijan has fully concluded the construction and repair work, which lasted 18 months, in the Baku-Supsa 'western' pipeline. "At present, work over pre-exploitation testing of pipeline is carried out," the company said on 3 April. ВР Azerbaijan leads the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC), which operates the Baku-Supsa pipeline.

"The pipeline will be put into operation as soon as the company gets sure about the possibility of safe oil pumping via it," BP said. Oil pumping via the pipeline was ceased in October 2006.

The German company MLG will construct the by-pass section of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline in Georgia. The Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC), an operator of the Baku-Supsa pipeline, monitored the soil movement in a section of the pipeline in the Georgian village of Zestafoni. An inconsiderable slide was seen, necessitating the construction of a by-pass section of the pipeline with a length of 1,000m. Georgia needs approximately $6mln for its construction.

During work, one of the passages of the pipelines via the Kur River was once more constructed in the territory of Azerbaijan. Work was also carried out in the pipeline section built in the territory of Georgia during the Soviet period.

Until the cessation of the operations, the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline transported light oil produced by the AIOC from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields.
