Studies Point to Absence of Commercial Reserves of Hydrocarbon in Azerbaijani Perspective Field: Source

Oil&Gas Materials 11 April 2008 16:42 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 April / corr. Trend S. Aliyev/ The preliminary electrical logging carried out in the second exploratory well of perspective Inam field showed no signs of hydrocarbon reserves. "The further logging can discover hydrocarbon reserves suitable for the commercial uses," said a source in oil and gas sphere of Azerbaijan.

An offshoot will be drilled in the well drilled by BP in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian. Earlier, the pore pressure dramatically dropped and drilling agent leaked out during the offshoot drilling under seven-inch casing string. The attempts to restore the circulation with the drilling agent of low thickness failed because of difference of pressure in the open trunk. Therefore, BP decided to cement this part of the well with its partners and to drill offshoot up to target well depth of 5,300 meters.

The well is being drilled in the contract field, covering about 225 cu. Km, 140 km south of Azerbaijan. The depth of water in the contact field ranges from 45 meters in north up to 200 meters in south. The minimal depth of field is 4 meters.

The participants of Inam field are: SOCAR (50%), BP (25%), National Oil Cooperation of Korea (20%) and Shell (5%).
