SOCAR’s New Terminal in Georgia to be Officially Opened on 16 May

Georgia, Tbilisi, 28 April /corr. Trend N.Kirskhalia / On 16 May, Kulevi terminal will be officially opened, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnak Abdullayev, who is on a visit to Tbilisi briefed the media.

"It will be the leargest terminal in South Caucasus region with the modern management system," he said.

The SOCAR President said that the Company allocated $305mln syndicated credit to complete the construction of the terminal. Credits were allocated by the consortium of 15 European banks, headed by ABN Amro, Societe Generale and BNP Paribas.

At present, the capacity of the terminal equals 10mln tons (2mln tons of crude oil, 3mln tons of diesel fuel and 4mln tons of black oil). The capacity of the reserve tank of the terminal is 320,000 cu m. There are plans to increase the capacity of the terminal up to 20mln tons and the reserve capacity up to 380,000 cu m.

Four railway routes are able to deliver 168 cisterns to the terminal with the construction of an access duct and 3 piers. There is also a laboratory in Kulevi for testing the oil and oil products in accordance with the international standards and a mobile of tanker park comprising of 9 subsidiary vessels as well as a new railway line Kolkheti-Kulevi- 13.8km in length. The new terminal can receive tankers with a capacity of about 100,000 to 150,000 tons.
