Negotiations Between Azerbaijan and Gasprom Pose No Danger for Tbilisi – Georgian Economy Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi, 11 June / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / Azerbaijan has guaranteed Georgia that no problems will occur with the gas supply to the country, Ekaterina Sharashidze, Georgian Economy Minister, stated to journalists, commenting the proposal by the Russian company Gasprom to transport Azerbaijani gas from Baku. 

Alexei Miller, Chairman of the Gasprom Board, stated about the interest to purchase the Azerbaijani gas when being on a visit to Baku in early June.

"Azerbaijan and Gasprom hold the negotiations on this issue. We were guaranteed that this negotiation would not affect the gas supply to Georgia," Sharashidze said. 

"I would like to say that Georgia will get its gas, and these negotiations will cause any danger to the country," the Minister said.

At present, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) supplies 1.2-1.3mln cu m gas to Georgia. Gas is also supplied to Georgia by partners to develop the Azerbaijani gas field ShahDaniz.
