SOCAR Puts in Commission New Platform in Large Offshore Field

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 June/ Trend / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has put in commission new double-bloc platform Oil Rocks - 2387 in the Oil Rocks offshore field, SOCAR said.

The platform has been installed in 24.5 meters of depth and it is meant for the drilling of 12 wells. The new platform is equipped with the up-to-date equipment with four mooring line, helipad and blocs of flats.

Oil Rocks drilling department has already drilled three wells in this platform. Two wells were developed after oil and gas pipelines were installed up to the bottom of the sea by Neftgasstroy trust. The daily oil production of the first well with 1,600 meters of depth totals to 15 tons. The second well is being developed at present. This well will also join the line.

The geological estimations have revealed several productive sea-lines. The fourth well is being drilled at present. The fifth well is expected to join the transport line by the end of the year.

The double-bloc platform Oil Rocks -2415 is being constructed in the field where 12 wells are expected to be drilled. Both blocs of the platform are attached to the bottom of the sea. The platform and first well are expected to be launched in December.

The Oil Rocks Oil and Gas Production Department plans to put into exploitation 20 new wells by the end of 2009. These measures are carried out in line with the presidential decree on increasing the volume of production of the Department from 812,000 tons of oil up to 1.2mln tons (by 1.5 times). In 2008, the total volume of oil production in the field will make up 936,420 tons. The Department plans to increase oil production up to 1.200.000 tons by 2009.
