Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 July / Trend / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) is holding exploration to build underground gas storage in the territory of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, the SOCAR said on 17 July.
Gobustan exploration drilling department will drill a well with the depth of 1,400m soon. The well drilling is aimed at defining a breed structure at the drilling point. Complex approach will be realized for the establishment of gas storage and accompanying infrastructure on the basis of results to be obtained during the drilling.
Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) is in blockade. Gas delivery to NAR is implemented via swap system through the Iranian territory. However, it is necessary to build gas storage to ensure reliable gas supply to consumers and module power station in NAR. The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to build gas storage in NAR.
