Washington Hopes Caspian Gas will Be Supplied to Europe: U.S. State Department

A.Badalova/ "The United States hopes Europe will receive gas from the Caspian region," U.S. State Department Special Envoy Boyden Gray said at the Oil & Gas Potential of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: Energy, Economy, Ecology. Strategy of Cooperation international conference on 9 September.

According to Gray, the United States will not be a priority receiver of the Caspian energy and does not seek an opportunity to consume the Caspian gas.

"Our own gas potential is rising. We do not plan to receive your gas at the first stage, but we hope Europe will do," said Gray.

Gray said that Washington supports the international companies which diversify energy market.

As to the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Gray said strengthening of cooperation between the two countries promotes independence of every country's economic system.

"The cooperation must be developed both in quantitative and qualitative aspect," he added.
