Former Head of KazMunaygaz Faces New Accusations

Kazakhstan, Astana, 11 September / Trend corr. K.Konirova / At present Serik Burkitbayev, the former head of KazMunaygaz, is in house imprisonment, a reliable source at the Counter Economic and Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan told Trend correspondent.

"Currently, Burkitbayev is in house imprisonment and undergoing investigation into accusations laid in line with new case," the source said.

The Counter Economic and Corruption Agency filed a lawsuit in accordance with Article 176 (appropriation or spending trusted foreign property) of the Kazakh Criminal Code on people, including the former head of KazMunaygaz, one of the Kazakh republican newspapers reported on 11 September.

According to the newspaper, investigators of the Financial Police began investigation simultaneously with the Kazakh National Security Committee. Burkitbayev is supposed one of the main suspected in theft of state means in this investigation. It is dealt with illegal use of financial flows to construct Naukograd complex in Talgar District of Almaty Region.
