SOCAR to Complete Construction of New Largest Offshore Platform by End of September

Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 September / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov /Baku Deep Water Jacket Plant Named after Heydar Aliyev of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will complete the construction of the double-units platform for the Oil Rocks field by the end of September.

The new platform will be installed in the Oil Rocks field after the construction works are completed. The platform will increase oil producing.

"The construction works in the first block have been already completed and platform is expected to be put into operation within ten days," a source from the Plant said.

Platform's height reaches 27km and it is planned to set up in the 17 metres bottom. Totally, 12 wells are planned to drill.

These measures are taken under the decree of Azerbaijani President to increase production volume in the oil and gas refining department Oil Rocks from the current 812,000tons to 1.2mln tons. In 2008, the total oil production from the field comprised 936,400 tons. Department plans to increase oil production to 1mln in 2009.

According to SOCAR geologists, the oil residual reserves is 30mln tons in the Oil Rocks field. SOCAR to drill 78 new wells in the field until 2010 to increase the oil production.

The first offshore oil in Azerbaijan was produced from the Oil Rocks field in 1949.
