ChevronTexaco Prepares for Transportation of Kazakh Oil via Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 September /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / "From November, the American company ChevronTexaco will begin transporting the oil produced in Kazakhstan through the territory of Azerbaijan," a high-ranking representative of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) said on 20 September.

The transportation of 4mln tons of oil per year will be realized with ships of Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company (ASCSC).

ChevronTexaco is the operator of Kazakhstan's Tengiz Field. The development of the contract area is realized by the operating company Tengizshevroyl.

According to the representative of SOCAR, the large part of the oil of ChevronTexaco from Tengiz Field will be transported via Azerbaijani-Georgian railway to the Ports of Batumi and Kulevi in the Black Sea.

"Part of oil ChevronTexaco will be exported via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline," said the SOCAR representative. The participation share of ChevronTexaco in the BTC project is 8.9%.

The Georgian Black Sea terminal in Kulevi is owned by SOCAR, and the oil terminal in Batumi by KazMunaygaz.
