Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 November / Trend / State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will soon begin drilling of a new deep well at the offshore Bahar-1 field, SOCAR said on 6 November. Project depth of the well is 5,200 meters. The well will be drilled for gas production. Previously, the company launched geophysical exploration on the prospective gas field Bahar-2. The work will go on till the end of the year and in 2009. The presence and amount of gas will be determined only after the geophysical reports are obtained, said the source. The Bahar-1 field, which reserves have been considerably developed, is a unique field. In the 80s of the last century, the field produced 16-17mln cu m of natural gas, which provided 30-40% of the country's gas demand. SOCAR develops Bahar-1 independently. SOCAR is engaged in gas production in Azerbaijan and produces fuel from the field through its own funds. Most of SOCAR's gas is used to meet the demand in the domestic market of Azerbaijan, and a part of the gas is exported to Georgia.
