Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 12 / Trend , corr. E.Ismayilov / GE Energy company has signed a contract with a cost of $3.7mln with the Chinese CNEEC company to control and protect the largest thermoelectric power station in the South Caucasus - thermoelectric power station (TPS) in Mingachevir. The station is owned by the Azerenergy company.

The new control system will ensure automatic check over all processes at the power station with the use of a network of sensors, controllers and dispatcher terminals.

System includes digital hydraulic control and emergency system for steam turbines. The installation of the system will be completed prior to the middle of 2010.

The conqueror of tender on reconstruction of TPS in Mingachevir, declared by Azerenergy, became the Chinese CNEEC company. The realization period of the project is 34 months. After the end of reconstruction the production capacity will be approximately 2,600 MWt.

The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development granted funds in the sum of $92mln for the reconstruction of station. The credit, given under the state guaranty, is connected with the obligations of Azerbaijan, undertaken before international financial institutes for conducting of reforms in the energy sector.

The reconstruction of seven power units of TPS will bring daily profit of $300,000 due to savings of petroleum residue, representatives of Azerenergy said. Furthermore, it can obtain €150mln for five years period due to decrease of ejections of nitrogen, carbonate and sulfuric gases, and within the framework the conditions of realization of Kyoto agreement.

To 2012 carbonic acid emissions from TSP may be decreased to 8.2mln tons, which will allow Azerenergy to get 'credit from carbonic acid', which were fixed within the Kyoto protocol.

TPS, built in 1980s years, is the largest power station in Azerbaijan. It has eight power units with a power of 300 MWt each; however, as a result the worn out nature of equipment the production capacity of station was reduced. this year Azerenergy together with the Russian company "power machines" was conducted the reconstruction of fifth power units, which made it possible to attain the power of production in 330-340 MWt.
