Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18 / Trend , A.Badalova/ The forum of gas exporting countries is not similar to the oil OPEC, said Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Russian Gazprom Alexander Medvedev.

"There is no sense to draw an analogy between the forum of gas exporting countries and the oil OPEC," Medvedev said at a news conference Meeting of the Heads of Gas Exporting Countries lively broadcast on Vesti channel on Dec. 18.

According to Medvedev, the working mechanism of the oil OPEC is based on quoted production and cannot be used in the gas market where contracts are long-term.

According to Gazprom official representative Sergei Kupriyanov, cooperation between the forum of gas exporting countries and institutions such as the European Union will benefit both sides.

On Oct. 21, Iran, Qatar and Russia agreed on conditions for creation of "gas OPEC".

On Dec. 23, Moscow will host the seventh meeting of energy ministers during the forum of gas exporting countries.
