Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will hold meeting with Slovakian President Ivan Gashparovich, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasily Tarlev and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski on energy issue in Kiev at 12:00 Kiev time on Jan. 16, the Ukrainian Presidential Administration said.

First, Yushchenko will meet with the Slovakian President at 11:00.

Earlier it was reported that five presidents of the Eastern Europe were expected in Kiev to attend an energy security summit.

The Presidents of Poland and Lithuania Lech Kaczyński and Valdas Adamkus confirmed their participation in the summit, the Ukrainian Presidential Administration reported.

On Jan. 17 Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev, in his turn, will call another gas summit in Moscow with participation of heads of states and governments which import natural gas from Russia or are transit countries. However, it is still unknown whether it will take place, Svoboda (Freedom) radio reported.

The Ukrainian President and Prime Minister stated that this summit should take place in one of the European countries which unlike Russia, is not a side of the current gas conflict. Yushchenko said that he will join the summit only under this condition.

The European Commission supported Kiev's position. Finally, the EU decided that a united delegation of comparatively low level will represent the organization at the summit. Thus, minister from Czech as a country currently chairing at the EU and European Commissioner from the European Commission will attend the summit only if Ukraine joins it.
