Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Jan. 28 / Trend , E.Hasanov /

The Iranian National Petroleum and Gas Company will hold talks with Turkmenistan and review projects to develop gas fields on the Turkmen-Iranian border.

A preliminary agreement was signed in late 2008.

Iran and Turkmenistan are connected by a gas pipeline from the Korpeje field.

The field was commissioned in 1995.

Under an agreement between the two nations, Iran constructed the communication field and prepared Korpeje for industrial development. Ashgabat paid off its financial share with natural gas supplies.

The project will provide uninterrupted Turkmen gas supplies to Iran's northern provinces.

Earlier Tehran agreed with Ashgabat to import 10-14 billion cubic meters of gas yearly.

The figure is twice the current consignment.
