Kazakhstan diversifies import of oil and gas equipment

Oil and gas equipment supplies from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan will be discussed again at upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission scheduled for April, Azerbaijani Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Kazakhstan Latif Gandilov told the correspondent of Trend in Astana.
Then Kazakh Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov visited some enterprises, namely, Baku Deep Water Jacket Plant named after Heydar Aliyev during his visit to Baku five years ago. The decision was made that specialists of KazMunayGaz company will study cooperation on this direction.
"Kazakhstan got familiarized with our potentialities in creation of oil and gas equipment. This issue was repeatedly raised earlier," ambassador said.
Before USSR collapse Kazakhstan did not produce oil and gas equipment. Strong enterprises are situated in Azerbaijan, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.
"We bought elevators AzinMash-37 in Baku in Soviet years which surely operate at many Kazakh oil fields," a representative of KazMunayGaz willing to remain undisclosed.
By obtaining independence, it was made a decision to create own oil and gas mechanical engineering in Kazakhstan, the interlocutor said. Presently, Petropavlov heavy engineering plant produces equipment for oil and gas branch. This plant enters Kazakh Engineering JSC. Several new enterprises producing pipes appeared in the west and north of the Republic in the last years.
"But I think that there is no necessity to invent bicycle again, especially, creating composite equipment as offshore oil platforms. Unfortunately, we broke old relations with former republics of the union," the interlocutor said.
It is cheaper and more profitable to bring equipment from these neighboring Republics but not from abroad in terms of current crisis and economy of means occurred on this regard, the representative of KazMunayGaz said.
"It is necessary to establish old relations. So, oil and gas equipment from Azerbaijan can enter Kazakh market via establishment of joint ventures. We applied to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with official letter in which we suggested Kazakh Engineering JSC considering issue on creation of joint venture with enterprises of former Republics of the Union," the representative of KazMunayGaz said.
KazMunayGaz does not produce oil and gas equipment but distributes orders at Kazakh enterprises. So, it can only recommend, he said. From its side, KazMunayGaz can suggest future joint ventures its fields as platform for experimental-production tests.
