Gas consumption reduces in Baku: Bakgaz

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 1, Trend E. Ismayilov /

PU Bakgaz (distribution and sale of gas in Baku) supplies Baku's gas system with daily gas supply amounting 6.7 million cubic meters compared to 8 million cubic meters of average daily gas supply in March, A source close to supplies in PU said on May 1.

"Presently, daily gas consumption is not lower 6.7 million cubic meters per day. Gas supply is not limited. This index reduces as soon as the weather is better," a source said.

There is no limit for gas supply. Major issue is payment for used gas by population, he said.

Baku's gas system was supplied with 1.04 billion cubic meters of gas in January-March. This index hits 348 million cubic meters in February.

PU supplied Baku's gas system with 2.45 billion cubic meters of gas in 2008.

PU completely refused from supplying Baku's gas system with gas in seasons (winter and summer seasons) in 2008. Volume of supplied gas is determined by users' demand. Season regime was introduced due to lack of gas meters among most part of population. As a result population used gas irrationally. Presently, 100 percent of users of Baku's gas system are provided with gas meters, a source said.

PU passed to summer work regime in previous years. This work regime includes reduction of gas volumes supplied to users compared to winter period. Transfer was made from November 15 in winter period. Daily gas supply hits 3-4 million cubic meters in summer. This index hits 10-13 million cubic meters in winter.
