Azerbaijan, Baku, May 13 / Trend , E. Ismayilov/

Georgia's international Black Sea port of Poti plans to ship about 1.5 million tons of oil in 2009, a source in Poti said.

"The shipment of oil tankers via the port is expected to shrink 20 to 30 percent this year due to crisis [world financial and economic crisis]," a source said.

A source said the volume of transshipment of oil cargo was 300,000 tons over the last four months which is 20 percent lower than the figure of last year.

This year the port of Poti plans to pass approximately 8 million tons of cargo. In late January to April this year, the volume of transshipment by the port totaled 1.7 million tons of various cargoes, which is 20 percent lower than the figure of last year.

Despite the crisis, construction of new container terminal port of Poti (14 berths) and a new container sea port near the port near Poti is currently continuing.

The construction of container terminal is expected to end in the first half of 2010.

The new container port will be launched in 2013. New port will be built not far from the current port. The new port will include container terminal with capacity of 2 million tons.

Container turnover at Poti increased 25 percent for the last five years. Therefore, there is a need to build new container terminal and new port with large capacity.
