Turkey is studying the possibility of joint exploration work in Prikopetdag plain in Turkmenistan, an official source said.
Preliminary agreement on the matter was reached during the meeting of intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. Turkey was represented by top managers of leading Turkish fuel and energy complex. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Taner Yıldız headed the delegation. Turkmenistan was represented in the committee by Vice-Prime Minister Hozhamuhammed Muhammadov.
The previous meeting was held in Ankara in April 2008.
Ankara proposes Turkmenistan to establish a joint venture to develop oil and gas fields. Turkey buys Turkmen electricity through Iran and is interested in the Nabucco project pipeline from Central Asia across the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus.
