It is inevitable that fuel prices will rise on the Georgian market under the current trend of oil price rise on the world markets, Chairman of the Union of Producers, importers and consumers of Georgia Vano Mtvralashvili said at a news conference on May 29.

A meeting of OPEC took place on May 28, in which the daily quota of oil production had been left unchanged. This figure amounts to 24.8 million barrels per day. Accordingly, world prices for oil products which Georgia imports increased, Mtvralashvili said.

He said, as for May 26, the price of petrol was $611.25 per ton, diesel - $454.00 per ton.

Since early 2009, the price of petrol has increased averagely by $200 per ton, while diesel - by $50 per ton. Therefore, recently, retail prices have increased in Georgia. For example, the price of petrol has increased by an average of 20-25 tetri per liter, Mtvralashvili said.
