Azerbaijan, Baku, June 5 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and BP may sign a contract PSA to develop two prospective gas units in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR high ranking official said.

"We haven't discussed the issue, but I think it will be a contract of PSA," the source said.

BP has voiced its willingness and SOCAR considered the proposal and gave its preliminary consent on the project.

Before, BP presented to SOCAR a package of proposals on the fields of D8, D10, Absheron, Umid, Babek and others. There is a preliminary consent to D8 and D10 units.

SOCAR First Vice President on Geology, Geophysics and Development of fields Khoshbakht Yusifzade said the works on the units would be commenced in the coming future.

The units are deep-seated and the expected depth will reach 7,000-7,500 metres, Yusifzade said.

BP is the operator of the two largest oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan - development of the block of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli and Shah Deniz gas field. BP is the operator of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the technical operator of the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). Currently, the bulk of the oil and gas production in Azerbaijan account for BP's projects.
