ADB consultant starts work on Power Distribution Development Investment Program in Azerbaijan

On July 1, the representatives of International Company Vision RI - consultant of Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Power Distribution Development Investment Program under Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) costing $500 million - will arrive in Azerbaijan, economist of ADB Baku office Rafael Abbasov said on June 22.

ADB provided $1 million for the preparation of projects under the investment program. Technical assistance will be directed towards preparing projects, primarily for receiving the first tranche of MFF.
"The work of the consultant is envisaged for eight months and includes two phases," said Abbasov.

The first phase envisages analysis and diagnosis of energy-distributing systems in the country, preparing a road map for the distribution of electricity, the investment programs for institutional development of the sector. The second phase implies preparing a project to receive the first tranche under the MFF.

The investment program envisages promotion of experimental development of small hydropower in remote and underdeveloped rural areas in addition to the energy balance; strengthening the distribution networks to improve energy security, reducing losses in transmission and distribution and increasing energy efficiency, support policies, restructuring and improving institutional capacity.

Today, within the multitranche mechanism, transportation projects are realized with the ADB, for which the bank assumed to allocate $500 million.
