Turkish Environment Minister Veysel Eroglu said on Wednesday a ban on the construction of the 1.2 billion euro ($1.68 billion) Ilisu dam would be lifted and construction may start next week, Reuters reported.
The controversial project in southeastern Turkey, which would flood ancient sites and uproot Kurdish residents, is aimed at a building power plant with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
