Turkmen and Romanian Presidents Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Traian Basescu today in Ashgabat have held talks on cooperation in energy, said the official Turkmen sources.

The parties expressed unification in their position concerning the issue of ensuring international energy security through diversification of energy supplies to markets. The parties mentioned necessity to unite efforts of all interested sides: producer-countries, consumer-countries and transit-countries.

Romania is directly interested in gaining direct access to the Turkmen gas. Romanian Transgaz is member of the Nabucco pipeline project, along with the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE.

EU hopes through Nabucco to diversify its sources of natural gas via access to the Caspian region's energy supplies, especially via Azerbaijan and Central Asian States.

Berdymuhamedov has recently said that Turkmenistan is ready to deliver natural gas on its border to any buyers, including the Nabucco project.

The Romanian side expressed its readiness to participate in the development, transportation of hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan, supplying the country with equipment and construction of power plants.
