Baku to host next meeting of EITI International Secretariat

Baku will host the next meeting of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative International Secretariat (EITI) on Oct.14-15, head of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) Shahmar Movsumov said. The SOFAZ is a member of the EITI, as well as of its International Secretariat.

"It is expected to hold the next meeting of EITI International Secretariat under the organization support of the SOFAZ on Oct.14-15," Movsumov added.

The SOFAZ achieved a full-right member status after appraisal of implementation process of initiative in Azerbaijan held by the Coffey International Development Company.

The EITI International Secretariat authorized 7 companies on world level, including Coffey Int. Dev. Ltd., ECON, The IDL Group, Goldwyn Int Strategies, Hart Nurse Limited, Oxford Policy Management, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Accountability to appraise an implementation process of the initiative in the member countries.

The EITI International Secretariat granted a candidate status to 15 countries, including Azerbaijan at its third meeting held in Oslo on Sep.27, 2007. Under the Secretariat's decision, a special appraisal should be conducted in the countries for full-right membership. An appraisal process was launched in Azerbaijan in 2008.
