Azerbaijan, Baku, July 30 / Trend , E. Ismayilov/

The Heydar Aliyev Deep Water Jacket Plant of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has finished 50 percent of the planned construction work as part of the construction of two units of the new four-unit platform Oil Rocks- 2585, a source at SOCAR close to the work said. It is planned to finish the construction work by late 2009.

"The units of the platform are under construction and I can say that 50 percent of the work has finished," the source said.

New platforms are necessary to maintain a stable volume of oil output at the Oil Rocks field, the reserves of which have been developed considerably. The Oil Rocks field is the first field on which Azerbaijan began to produce oil in the sea.

The remaining two blocks will be built by Neftegazstroy trust on construction and installation site in Zigh, the source said.

The new platform will be located at a depth of water of 46 meters, 500 meters from five-unit Oil Rocks-1887 platform. Total of 12 wells is scheduled to be built from the new platform.

These measures are taken under order of President of Azerbaijan on increasing output from Oil Rocks oil and gas production from 812,000 tons of oil up to 1.2 million tons (1.5 times).

According to estimates of SOCAR geologists, the residual amount of oil at the Oil Rocks is 30 million tons. SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to increase oil production at the field until 2010.
