Realizing the construction project for the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the acceleration of which Islamabad and Ashgabat recently agreed, may serve as a guarantee for the region's further economic growth and it social welfare.
The projects' "special significance" was noted at a meeting between Turkmen President, Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, and Pakistani Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Tassaduka Hussain, who recently handed in his credentials, the governmental press office said on Sept,9.
The ambassador passed on greetings from the Pakistani President, Asif Ali Zardari. Berdimuhammedov emphasized that the "special friendliness" recalls personal meetings.
The President also expressed his appreciation of Pakistan's support for important international initiatives provided by Turkmenistan, especially initiatives on the reliable and stable transit of energy resources, approved by a special UN resolution and unanimously endorsed by all 192 of the Organization's member-states, including Pakistan.
Turkmenistan sincerely values its centuries-old friendship with Pakistan, a country to which Turkmenistan it is linked not only by geographical proximity, but also by deep historical roots, common culture and traditions, Berdimuhammedov added.
The sides also noted the important role of the intergovernmental commission, designed to ensure "Turkmenistan and Pakistan's full readiness to intensify cooperation in trade and economy, science, education, health, sports and tourism".
