Azerbaijan, Baku, September 16 / Trend , E. Ismailov /

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) continues displaying an interest in oil refining in Romania, a senior representative of SOCAR said on Sept. 16.

"This issue is on the agenda, and it is attractive enough," said the source.

In Romania, all refineries are private, said the representative of the company, so negotiations can be conducted only with private entrepreneurs. "This requires a long period of negotiations and evaluation," - said the representative of SOCAR.
According to data provided by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the total processing capacity of crude oil in Romania is more than 25 million tons per year (517,000 per day).

With regards to the acquisition of a refinery in Ukraine, the representative of SOCAR said "we would be interested to build a refinery or to acquire them on the Black Sea coast, but not deep territory of Ukraine."

According to the EIA, the total capacity of oil refining in Ukraine is around 44 million tons per year (880,000 barrels per day).
