An oil refinery plant in Turkmenbashi, the biggest in the country, increased production in September 2009.

In particular, in this period the plant produced 38,552 tons of kerosene, increasing the production rate by 7 percent, 8,360 tons of polypropylene and 10,885 tons of coke, the plant said.

Finally, the figures exceeded the target for production of these products - polypropylene by 1,891 tons and coke by 453 tons. The plant also produced 330 tons of petrol in addition to the target.

The enterprise has been fully reconstructed over the past few years through investing $1.6 billion. The financing was partially provided by loan of European and Japanese banks.

Turkmenistan produces around 10 million tons of oil a year and refines its major part in the local ORPs. Oil and oil products are exported via Azerbaijan and Iran.
