Uzbekistan reduces power generation in Jan-Sep

In January-September 2009, Uzbekistan has reduced the power production by 0.8 percent to 36.816.99 billion kw per hour compared to the same period of 2008, the country's state statistics committee said.

During this period, the Uzbek power stations have delivered about 13.3 million gigacalories of heat energy (with a decrease of 6.5 percent) to the population and the country's enterprises.

Over 98 percent of the electricity produced in Uzbekistan fells on the power plants under the management of the national company Uzbekenergo, which was established on the basis of the electricity and electrification ministry.

Uzbekenergo has 7 thermal power plants, 6 companies producing hydroelectric power and 3 combined heat and power.

Uzbekistan is part of the integrated Central Asia Power System (CAPS). The country's installed power generation capacity is 11,580 MW.

In 2008, Uzbekistan increased the power production by 2.3 percent to 50.1 billion kw/h compared to 2007.
