Azerbaijan, Baku, October 29 / Trend , E.Ismailov /

In early 2010, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to begin drilling high-productive operating gas-condensate wells from the platform "March 8 - 730", on the offshore 8 March field developed by the company independently, a source in SOCAR said on Oct. 29.

As the source said, drilling is scheduled to begin soon, but because the process of installation of the equipment is difficult, drilling will begin in a few months.

"Currently, work is underway on the preparation of drilling. It is expected that drilling will commence in January," the same source said.

Earlier SOCAR planned to begin drilling new wells on the platform number 578, but due to the fact that setting the rig made it difficult to maintain production from other wells, it was decided to move the rig to the platform number 730, and start drilling here.

Projected depth of the well is 5,800 meters. Expected daily well production rate is about 350,000 cubic meters of gas and 40 tons of condensate.

At present, March 8 field daily produces more than 400,000 cubic meters of gas. Company's geologists have identified nine points for further drilling, SOCAR said.
