Relations between Iran and Turkmenistan enter new phase: Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow

"Friendly relations between Turkmen and Iranian people have entered a new phase of development and acquired new meaning," Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow said at the opening ceremony of the Iranian Industrial Exhibition in Ashgabat on November 2.

"It is an important event testifying developing mutually beneficial and useful relations between Turkmenistan and Iran," Berdimuhammedow said.

The achievements include a joint work over major projects - construction of the railway Tedjen-Serahs-Meshed connecting the countries of Central Asia with Europe. This railway has become an important transit passage, gas pipeline Korpeje-Kurt Kui, modern high-voltage electric power line Balkanabat-Ali-Abat, reservoir Dostluk, ongoing construction of railway Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran.

Iranian media reported that the agreement to increase import of Turkmen gas to Iran was achieved at the talks in Tehran at the weekend.

"It is visible evidence of developing Turkmen-Iranian cooperation", the Turkmen leader said.

Fiber-optic backbone Trans-Asia-Europe, grainelevators, terminals for storage and transportation of liquefied natural gas, and other facilities have been recently constructed with participation of Iranian companies. Volumes of trade increase.

"I firmly believe that the cooperation between our friendly countries will continue to widen and enter new sphere due to the will of peoples of two neighboring countries and constant efforts of their leaders," Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow said.

During the exhibition, the talks with Iranian companies interested in the work in Turkmenistan are planned to be held.
