In 2008, SOCAR conducted 3D seismic on more than 100 sq. km

In 2008, the geology and geophysics unit of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) carried out three-dimensional seismic studies in the area of 104,69 square meters, the company's 2008 report said. In 2008, the company also conducted two-dimensional seismic studies in amount of 639,25 meters.

The geology and geophysics unit work carried work on 31 onshore and 14 offshore wells in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

Also, as part of geotechnical works in 2008, SOCAR conducted work on engineering-geological drilling (15,144 meters), 36 kilometers of continuous seismo-acoustic profiling, 4028 kilometers sonar works, 2510,4 line-km of bathymetry and carried out topographic work on 693,6 hectares.

Currently SOCAR develops 59 oil and gas fields, including 41 onshore and 18 offshore.

Last year, SOCAR carried out exploitation drilling at about 198,200 meters compared to planned 187,000 meters. In 2007 this figure amounted to more than 185,200 meters. In 2008 the company made exploratory drilling at about 4,800 meters compared with planned 9,500 meters. In 2007 the company produced more than 5,100 meters of exploratory drilling.

Totally in 2008, SOCAR drilled approximately 203,000 meters compared to the projected 196,500 meters. In 2007, the company drilled about 190,400 meters.

In 2008, SOCAR completed drilling of 112 wells compared to the projected 114. In 2007 this figure was 116.
