The Heydar Aliyev Deepwater Jackets Plan has been awarded a contract to construct another 4-bloc platform on Oily Rocks 2585, a source at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) said.

Earlier the plant has contract on construction of two blocs.

"Construction of two blocs is complete. The next contract was awarded to build the third bloc," the source said.

Earlier the Oil and Gas Construction Trust of SOCAR was expected to build the remaining two blocs. Later it was decided to engage the plant in the construction of the third bloc. Necessary parts of the bloc should be delivered to the plant's site to launch the construction.

Under the construction of topsides the plant is committed to build three new modules of the platform. The rest part of topsides will be built by the Oil and Gas Construction Trust.

The platform with the height of 64 meters will be installed in the sea depth of 46 meters in 500 meters of the five-bloc Oil Rocks 1887 platform. Twelve wells will be drilled on the new platform.

New platforms are necessary to maintain a stable volume of oil output at the Oily Rocks field, the reserves of which have been developed considerably. The Oily Rocks field is the first field on which Azerbaijan began to produce oil in the sea.

Drilling new wells is carried out under the Azerbaijani President's orders on increase of the Oily Rocks oil and gas production unit (OGPU) from 812,000 tons of oil up to 1.2 million tons (1.5 times).

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said earlier that the residual recoverable oil and gas reserves of the Oily Rocks field exceed 182 million tons of oil. The volume of geological reserves of the field is equal to 365 million tons. In accordance with the existing project, the development of Oily Rocks is scheduled to complete in 2035.

At present, daily oil production in this area exceeds 2,450 tons. Since the very beginning of exploitation in 1949, 167 million tons of oil has been produced from the field, Abdullayev.
