Increase of capacity to keep gas in Azerbaijani underground gas-holders will allow ensuring energy security of Azerbaijan, as well as contracts on Azerbaijani gas export, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said today.
"At the first stage, capacity of gas-holders will be increased up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas but up to 5 billion cubic meters at the second stage. It will allow us providing own energy security and realization of contracts," Abdullayev said.
At present, infrastructure of Karadag and Kalmaz gas-holders is changed. New wells are drilled. The existing ones are repaired.
The company has pumped record volumes of gas worth 1.95 billion of cubic meters to underground gas-holders in 2009.
SOCAR plans to more increase the volumes of gas pumped into gas-holders in 2010.
There are two underground gas-holders, including Karadag and Kalmaz ones.
