The main purpose of Azerbaijani gas exports to world market is to receive additional income, State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) President Rovnag Abdullayev said today.
Azerbaijan has one aim for gas export, and this goal is to bring energy to world markets, sell gas and oil at a high price, and bring the state revenue, Abdullayev said.
Azerbaijan has four directions for gas exports - Turkey, Georgia, Russia and Iran. Oil is supplied to Turkey and Georgia.
SOCAR will supply gas to Russia from early 2010. According to the contract (2010-2014) Azerbaijan will supply annually to Russia 500 million cubic meters of gas per year.
Azerbaijani gas may also be supplied to Iran from early 2010. The conditions of Iran's possible purchase of Azerbaijani gas are under negotiation.
The SOCAR delegation is on a visit to Iran where talks on the gas purchases are underway. A contract is expected to be signed during the visit.
