In 2009, Azerbaijan produced 4.69 million tons of petroleum products compared to 5.88 million tons in 2008, SOCAR said. In December, the country produced 428,930 tons of petroleum products compared to 376,230 tons in November 2009 and 497,240 tons in December 2008.
In 2009, the largest volume of production fell on diesel fuel - 2.22 million tons compared to 2.42 million tons in 2008.
Oil products are produced at two Baku refineries with capacity of 20 million tons of oil per year. Two refineries enter SOCAR annually processing 7 million tons of oil extracted onshore and offshore owing to own funds. In 2009 the ORP's refined about 6.03 million tons of oil compared to 7.35 in 2008.
