Ankara hopes to receive Turkmen gas in the nearest future, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told Turkmenistan-TV Channel 4, broadcasting at six languages.

"I hope that Turkey will be supplied with Turkmen gas through Iran or the Caspian Sea soon," high-ranking official said.

On Jan.6, minister participated in the ceremony of putting into operation the second gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Iran from Dovletabad field in the western part of the country. The new project will ultimately increase Turkmen gas supplies to Iran up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas from eight billion in 2009.

Ankara and Ashgabat studied the project on export of Turkmen gas to Turkey in the mid. 1990 of the last century. Two alternative routes through Iran or the Caspian seabed were envisaged. Shell Company conducted feasibility study on the whole project.
