Turkmenistan likely to up natural gas production

Turkmenistan as the largest supplier of fossil fuels in the Central Asia region has every opportunity to increase its production in the coming years, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper wrote. Over the past few years, Turkmenistan has produced about 70 billion cubic meters of gas.

"Creating a diversified system of gas export to the world markets, our country could become one of the largest suppliers in the world," the paper wrote. "This perspective is justified, above all, on the presence of huge natural gas reserves, estimated by the Turkmen specialists and confirmed by audit studies of international companies."

The paper noted that in the near future the country will add new pipeline to the existing transnational gas arteries (in Russia, Iran and China) and diversify development of promising export destinations e.

Ashgabat studies the possibility of transporting gas to Europe and India. Turkmenistan's energy is currently estimated at 45.44 billion tons of oil equivalent.

Extraction and processing of oil and gas, power generation, based mainly on the use of cleaner gaseous fuels, whish has traditionally been one of the priority sectors of the Turkmen economy.
