Iran and Germany sign one-billion euro contract

Iran and Germany signed a one-billion euro contract on joint production of gas turbines and turbochargers, Alirza Garibi, CEO of the Engineering Company to Develop Iran's Gas Industry, was quoted as saying by the Iranian Mehr news agency.

The official did not name the German company.

According to Garibi, the companies signed a contract to build 100 gas turbochargers. "The project costs one billion euros," he added.

According to the contract, Germans will teach local experts the process of assembling turbines and turbochargers, he said.

He said previously Iran had concluded a contract to build 45 turbochargers with the company.

The German company plans to improve the process of assembly of turbochargers by late 2010.
