Gas consumption ups in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 26 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

At present, the average gas supply of Bakgaz (distribution and sale of gas to Baku), under the Azerigas Production Unity (PU), to the Baku gas supply system is 11.5 million cubic meters,  a source in the company said.  Earlier, Azerigas JSC was attached to the structure of SOCAR (Sate Oil Company of the Azerbaijan) as PU.

"Given the weather conditions, it is difficult to speak on the amount of gas consumption today," the source said. "But, as of Jan.25 the figure was 11.5 million cubic meters."

According to him, given the sharp fall in temperature and snowfall in Baku gas consumption can reach 12-12.5 million cubic meters.

In 2009, the gas supply of Bakgaz to the Baku gas supply system was 2.45 billion cubic meters. The PU transferred about 2.45 billion cubic meters of gas to the gas feed system of Baku in 2008. In December 2009, over 317.5 million cubic meter of gas was transferred to the gas system of Baku, compared to 334.4 million cubic meters in December 2008.

PU refused from season gas supply (summer and winter seasons) in Baku's gas system in 2008. Volume of supplied gas is determined by consumers' demand. Introduction of season regime was connected with lack of gas meters among most part of population. As a result population used gas irrationally. Presently, 100 percent of users of Baku's system were provided with gas meters, a source said. Earlier, daily gas supply was 3-4 million cubic meters in summer but 10-13 million cubic meters in winter.
