In 2009, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has spent 50 million manats on ecology projects. In 2010, the costs of ecology projects may exceed this figure, Mukhtar Babayev, SOCAR's ecology vice-president, said at a press conference.
Most of the funds have been spent to buy ecological equipment, to replace the technological operation mode of SOCAR's enterprises and to clean up polluted lands and water.
In 2008, SOCAR has invested 28.5 million manats in ecology projects; this figure was 22 million manats in 2007.
