Georgian FM announces on resumption of traffic through Kazbegi (Georgia) - Upper Lars (Russia)

The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in connection with the resumption of traffic through checkpoints Kazbegi (Georgia) - "Upper Lars" (Russia).

The statement says that"

In compliance with the agreements reached by the Georgian and Russian group of experts at the meetings held in Yerevan Oct.28, 2009, the movement through the "Kazbegi" (Georgia) and "Upper Lars" (Zemo Larsi)checkpoints (hereinafter "checkpoints") will resume as of 1 March 2010.

To notify this fact the Georgian Foreign Ministry sent a respective note to the Swiss Embassy in Georgia. The Swiss Embassy in Russia was notified by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The movement of people, vehicles, cargoes, goods and animals through the "Kazbegi" (Georgia) checkpoint will take place in compliance with the legislation of Georgia.

The movement of people, vehicles, cargoes, goods and animals through the "Upper Lars" (Russian Federation) checkpoint will take place in compliance with the applicable laws and rules of the Russian Federation.

The checkpoints will operate every day from 6.00 till 22.00 within a period from March 1 to Nov.1, and from 7.00 till 19.00 within a period from Nov.1 to March1.

In certain climatic conditions, within a period from Nov.1 to May 1, it will be allowed to restrict the movement of trailer and semi-trailer trucks and passenger vehicles with more than 30 seats through the checkpoints.

Crossing the state border on foot through the checkpoints will be prohibited.

If either side denies passage to a transport vehicle, the other side will ensure an immediate and unhindered return of such vehicle to its own territory.

Georgian visas will not be issued at the "Kazbegi" (Georgia) checkpoint.
