EU special representative: EU is ready to participate in Turkmenistan energy projects

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, March 03 / Trend H.Hasanov /

Leading European companies have expressed "tremendous" interest in energy project in Turkmenistan, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel said.

This topic was raised during his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov.

Turkmenistan is modernizing and diversifying its energy output in order to export to world markets.

Morel also noted that the European Union shows high interest in expanding the cooperation with the Turkmen government, because of the country's immense economic potential and geopolitical location.

The Turkmen leader emphasized that the cooperation with the EU is a foreign policy priority. The two sides exchanged views on the prospects of partnership in the trade and economic spheres.

Experts consider that the Nabucco gas pipeline project will be more dynamic if Turkmenistan is part of it because it has the fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world.
