SOCAR expects quick restoration of Kazakh oil transportation via BTC

Pumping of the Kazakh oil from the Tengiz field via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) will be restored in the near future, a source in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) said.
"Presently, the subject is under negotiations," the source said. "It is expected that transportation of the Kazakh oil through BTC pipeline will be resumed soon."

The operator of the project on development of the Kazakh Tengiz oil field, Tengizchevroil (TCO) is in talks with shareholders of BTC for the conclusion of a contract to resume  pumping of its our own oil via BTC, SOCAR Head Rovnag Abdullayev said earlier.

In 2009, BTC transported 1.9 million tons of oil from the Tengiz oil field. In 2008 (October-December), the BTC transported 285,100 tons of Kazakh oil.

The total length of BТС is 1.768 kilometers including the 443 kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, the 249 kilometer section via Georgia and the 1.076 kilometer via Turkey.

The shareholders of BTC are BP (30.1%), AzBTC (25%), Chevron (8.90%), Statoil (8.71%), TRAO (6.53%), ENI (5%), Total (5%), Itochu (3.40%), Inpex (2.50%), ConocoPhilips (2.50%) and Hess (2.36%).
